Couples Counseling Logistics
In-person locations or telehealth
Consultation
First, I’ll reach out by phone to set up a time for a consultation, which can be conducted in-person or through telehealth. Once scheduled, our 50-minute consultation will serve as a time to find out what brings you to couples counseling and how I work. I will reflect and listen to the dynamics that are present and I’ll give some more detail of how I think of things and what sessions would look like. This is also the time where we will discuss the fee and other logistics. If we decide we’re not a good fit, there is no charge for the consultation.
If we are a good fit and I get the impression I can help with your concerns we’ll schedule a first session. At the beginning of our first session I will charge for the consultation at my pro-rated fee for couples.
Session format and frequency
I find weekly, 80-minutes sessions maintain the momentum and support needed for relational shifts. This is because relationship dynamics are complicated and tracking disruptive cycles takes practice. Weekly sessions provide consistent exposure to the relationship dynamics and increase the possibility of effective work together.
First sessions and attachment history
If deemed useful, not long after our first session, we’ll schedule individual sessions to get more targeted information about you and your partners’ attachment history. This is recommended as it provides a more complete and complex understanding of the relationship context — what have we brought with us into session.
Fee
We will discuss the fee during consultation. I am a cash only business and do not accept insurance. You can ask your insurance company if it has out-of-network benefits. If so, ask them what their reimbursement is for psychotherapy.
Cancellation Policy
I allow for three missed weeks of sessions per calendar year, free of charge. After the three weeks of sessions are used I charge for every session after regardless if you can attend.
